TRT & low testosterone treatment in Springfield, MO

Low testosterone treatment that starts with real numbers.

Your drive has changed, your libido is lower, or recovery feels harder. Low testosterone is one possible explanation, not the only one. At our Springfield clinic, Teresa reviews symptoms, health history, and testosterone testing together before discussing whether testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is appropriate.

  • A full hour with your provider, not fifteen minutes

What TRT actually is.

Before anything else, the plain version: TRT restores testosterone that has dropped below where your body runs well, using the same hormone your body already makes, dosed to your measured levels and rechecked over time. Three terms get used loosely, and the difference between them is the whole point.

  • TRT

    Testosterone replacement therapy

Bringing low testosterone back into a healthy range under supervision — by injection, cream, or pellet — with dosing set from your labs, not a fixed protocol.

  • Low T

    Low testosterone

The condition, not the treatment: testosterone low enough to cause symptoms. It is diagnosed from bloodwork plus how you feel, never from symptoms alone.

  • Total vs. free

    The two numbers that matter

Total testosterone is everything in your blood; free is the fraction actually available to your tissue. A “normal” total can hide a low free — which is why both get measured here.

In their own words

What men describe when they come in

  • I have no drive — at work or at home.”

  • I train hard and I am still losing muscle.”

  • The belly fat will not come off.”

  • I am tired by the middle of the afternoon.”

  • My focus is shot.”

  • My recovery takes days longer than it used to.”

  • My mood is flat.”

  • My libido dropped off a cliff.”

Every one of these is measurable. None of them is something you have to live with because someone called it normal.

What we measure

Total testosterone alone is not a workup

Much of your testosterone is bound up and unavailable, so a total reading can look acceptable while free testosterone sits low. We measure the whole picture — free and total testosterone, estradiol, thyroid, and the metabolic markers that quietly suppress hormones in the first place.

  • Total testosterone
  • Free testosterone
  • SHBG
  • Estradiol
  • LH & FSH
  • Full thyroid panel
  • Fasting insulin & A1c
  • PSA
  • The full panel — including free and total testosterone.

Total testosterone alone is the number most men get. Free testosterone is the fraction actually available to your tissue, and it is where a “normal” total often falls apart.

  • Being told you are “in range” is not the end of the conversation.

The reference range spans decades of men. Sitting at the bottom of it in your forties is a finding worth acting on, not a reason to send you home.

How it works

Three steps to knowing what is actually low.

You are not handed a standard dose and sent home. We build your plan with you, using your numbers, and we change it when those numbers change.

  1. A patient checking in with Mark at the front desk of the Springfield clinic

    Step 01

    Draw a real panel

Everything is drawn at our in-office lab during your Total Health Assessment, including the markers a basic physical skips.

No second trip to a lab

  2. Teresa walking a patient through her lab results line by line

    Step 02

Find out what is driving it

In a full hour, Teresa shows you whether this is primary low T, a thyroid problem, insulin resistance, or a combination — and what that means for treatment.

    One full hour

  3. Teresa shaking hands with a patient on her way out of the clinic

    Step 03

    Treat and re-measure

If testosterone therapy fits, dosing is set from your labs and adjusted at follow-up. We treat the metabolic side at the same time, since the two feed each other.

    Dosed from your labs

Who you see

What kind of doctor treats low testosterone?

Several kinds of provider will write a testosterone prescription, and they are not the same in what they measure or how they follow up. Here is the honest landscape.

  • Primary care (PCP)

Usually the first stop, and often where a single total-T number gets checked.

    Typical visit
    15 minutes, many concerns
    Testing
    Total testosterone, sometimes
    Follow-up
    Rarely re-measures or adjusts
  • Urologist

The specialist for prostate and fertility, who also manages testosterone.

    Typical visit
    Focused on urologic health
    Testing
    Free + total, often
    Follow-up
    Referral-based, less frequent
  • Online TRT clinic

Mail-order testosterone marketed on speed and low price.

    Typical visit
    No in-person exam
    Testing
    Minimal; sometimes dose-first
    Follow-up
    Automated, rarely a real recheck
  • Dedicated hormone clinic

    Where you are

A practice where hormone and metabolic health is the entire focus.

    Typical visit
A full hour on your results
    Testing
Free + total, plus what drives it
    Follow-up
    Re-measured and re-dosed over time

No specialty “owns” low testosterone, and you don’t need a referral to be seen here. What separates providers isn’t the title — it’s whether they measure free and total, look for what’s driving the drop, and recheck instead of setting a dose and forgetting it.

Who qualifies

Are you a candidate for TRT?

There’s no symptom that qualifies you on its own and no age that rules you out. Candidacy comes from bloodwork read alongside how you feel — but here is the honest shape of who this tends to fit.

Likely a fit if

  • You’ve lost drive, focus, strength, or recovery over months and can’t pin it on one thing.
  • You were told your testosterone was “normal” but still feel switched off.
  • A single total-T number was checked and free testosterone never was.
  • You want the cause found — thyroid, insulin, sleep — before, or alongside, any prescription.

A different first step if

  • You’re trying to conceive now or soon — testosterone can suppress fertility, so that changes the first step.
  • You have an untreated prostate concern or an elevated PSA that needs evaluating first.
  • You want testosterone on demand without testing — that isn’t how anything is prescribed here.
  • Your numbers are healthy and the cause is elsewhere; the same panel usually shows where to look instead.

Not sure which column you’re in? That’s the normal starting point — the assessment and a full panel settle it.

Common questions

What men want to know before starting testosterone therapy.

Can TRT affect fertility, and what needs monitoring?

Testosterone treatment can suppress sperm production and is generally not recommended when you are planning fertility in the near term. Before treatment, discuss fertility goals, sleep apnea, prostate concerns, heart health, and blood counts. Follow-up checks treatment response, side effects, testosterone levels, and hematocrit, with prostate monitoring when appropriate. A prescription is not guaranteed by the assessment.

My doctor said my testosterone was normal. Why do I still feel awful?

Fatigue and low libido can have causes other than testosterone, including sleep problems, medications, thyroid disease, or depression. A normal result does not dismiss your symptoms, but it does not establish a need for TRT either. Guidelines call for compatible symptoms and consistently low testosterone, confirmed with repeat morning fasting testing; free testosterone may help in selected cases.

Will I be on testosterone forever?

That depends entirely on what your labs show and what is causing it. Sometimes the driver is thyroid or insulin resistance, and correcting that changes the picture. Teresa will be direct with you about what your own results point to.

Do you require a referral?
